Canva Code originally made it possible to create interactive digital experiences from natural-language instructions. Canva Code 2.0 extends that idea by addressing a common weakness of AI coding tools: generating a functional result is often easier than refining it.
A website or lightweight application may work technically but still contain generic typography, unsuitable imagery or a visual style that does not match the organization behind it. Correcting those details can require repeated prompting, a separate design application or direct code changes.
Released across the Canva community in July 2026, Canva Code 2.0 brings generated experiences into the same visual environment people use for presentations, social posts and other Canva designs. Users can modify visible elements manually, request targeted changes through Canva AI and publish the resulting experience without rebuilding it elsewhere.
AI Code Has Often Been Easier to Generate Than to Control
Vibe coding allows people to create software by describing the desired result in ordinary language. A user might request an event website, educational game, product calculator or interactive landing page without specifying the technical implementation.
The AI then produces the code and interface needed to make that experience work. This can dramatically shorten the path from an idea to a usable prototype.
The difficulty often appears after generation. A user may want to replace one image, update a heading or apply a particular brand color. In many AI coding platforms, those changes require another prompt. A broad instruction can alter parts of the experience that were already correct, while a highly specific instruction may still be misunderstood.
People with technical experience can open the source code and make the adjustment manually. Non-developers may have fewer options, even when the requested change would be simple inside a conventional design tool.
Canva’s response is to make interactive code behave more like editable visual content.
Canva Code 2.0 Brings Interactive Experiences Into the Editor
A Canva Code project can sit inside the Canva Editor alongside the platform’s existing design tools. Users can click into visible sections, rewrite text directly, change fonts and colors through the toolbar, and replace images by dragging in personal uploads or assets from Canva’s library.
They can also select a particular element and ask Canva AI to revise it conversationally. This creates two complementary editing methods:
A marketer could manually replace a product photograph while asking Canva AI to simplify the navigation. A teacher could change the colors of an educational game through the editor, then prompt the AI to add another question or scoring rule.
This combination is important because prompting and manual editing solve different problems. Conversation is useful when the user can describe an outcome but does not know how to implement it. Direct editing is often faster when the problem is already visible and specific.
Canva describes the objective as allowing people to edit an interactive experience “like any other design,” while the underlying output continues to function as a website or application.
The Experience Remains Interactive While Its Design Changes
The generated project is not simply converted into a screenshot or a flat visual file.
Buttons, forms, calculations, navigation and other supported interactive behaviour remain part of the experience while users change its appearance. Canva Code outputs are also designed to adapt to different screen sizes, with mobile previews available before publication.
This distinguishes the feature from tools that generate only a visual mock-up of a website. A mock-up shows what an interface could look like. Canva Code attempts to produce something an audience can actually use.
Users can place Code creations inside other Canva projects, including presentations and whiteboards. An interactive calculator could become part of a sales presentation, while a quiz or small game could be incorporated into educational material.
Canva also supports forms that send collected responses into Canva Sheets, connecting the visible experience with structured data. The exact capabilities will still depend on the project, and Canva’s official materials focus primarily on lightweight websites, applications, games, forms and interactive content rather than complex enterprise software.
HTML Import Makes External AI Code Editable in Canva
Canva’s visual editing approach is not limited to projects generated inside Canva Code.
The platform can import HTML created elsewhere, including experiences produced through other AI assistants. Canva converts the imported project into an editable Canva experience so that users can continue refining it without rebuilding the visual structure from the beginning.
This could create a more flexible workflow between AI tools. Someone might use a specialist coding assistant to generate an initial concept, import the HTML into Canva and then let a marketing or design team adapt its appearance through familiar visual controls.
HTML import also matters for collaboration between technical and non-technical professionals. A developer can provide a working starting point, while colleagues adjust the content, imagery and branding without asking the developer to implement every cosmetic revision.
Compatibility is unlikely to be perfect for every project. Experiences that depend on complex frameworks, external packages, private databases or advanced server-side functions may require additional technical work. Canva presents the feature as a way to edit interactive experiences, not as guaranteed support for every type of web application.
Developers Can Still Access the Underlying Code
Visual editing does not completely hide the technical layer.
Canva introduced the ability to view and copy code generated by Canva Code in 2025. Developers and technically experienced teams can therefore move beyond the visual editor when they need deeper customization or want to incorporate the generated work into another development environment.
This creates a two-direction workflow. Code can be imported into Canva for visual editing, while Canva-generated code can be copied for further technical development.
That flexibility may help Canva serve several audiences at once. Non-developers can remain in the editor, designers can control the interface, and developers can take over when a project grows beyond the platform’s built-in capabilities.
Brand Kits and Collaboration Make Code a Team Asset
Canva Code 2.0 also connects interactive development with Canva’s broader brand and collaboration systems.
Brand Kits can provide approved fonts, colors, logos and visual assets. Instead of relying entirely on a written prompt to describe a company’s identity, users can apply brand resources already stored in Canva.
Teams can review projects together, leave comments and refine an experience in real time. This may reduce the fragmented process in which a developer creates a prototype, exports screenshots, waits for design feedback and then manually implements every visual revision.
A marketing professional could adjust campaign messaging, a designer could refine the visual hierarchy and a developer could review the functional behaviour inside a shared workflow.
Once approved, the experience can be published through a free Canva domain, connected to a custom domain purchased through Canva or shared internally with single sign-on protection for supported organizational accounts.
Visual Editability Does Not Remove Engineering Requirements
Canva’s approach lowers the barrier to creating and customizing interactive work, but it does not make every software project suitable for non-technical production.
A visually polished application may still contain functional errors, inaccessible interactions or weak data handling. Projects involving authentication, payments, confidential information, complex databases or critical business operations require security testing and professional technical review.
Directly changing visible elements also does not reveal every dependency beneath them. A button may look correct while its action fails, or a form may collect information without handling it in an appropriate way.
Canva Code is therefore likely to be most useful for prototypes, marketing experiences, educational activities, internal resources and lightweight web tools. Its visual editor can reduce routine design work, but it does not replace software architecture, quality assurance or cybersecurity.
Canva itself advises users to review AI-generated work, particularly when accuracy or commercial use matters. It also notes that users remain responsible for determining whether generated content is suitable and legally appropriate for their intended use.
Availability Across Canva Plans
Canva Code 2.0 is available to Free, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education users. Canva AI usage allowances and access to more advanced features may vary by subscription.
The platform offers more than 50 Code templates and access to Canva’s wider content library for customization. Users can start from a prompt, select a template or import an existing HTML project.
Canva reports that its community created more than six million sites with Canva Code during the year following the feature’s original introduction. This is company-reported usage rather than independent evidence of project quality, but it indicates Canva’s intention to make interactive creation part of its mainstream design platform rather than a specialist developer product.
Canva Code 2.0 attempts to solve one of the central problems of AI-generated software: a working output is not necessarily an editable, distinctive or production-ready one.
By placing websites, apps and interactive experiences inside the Canva Editor, the platform allows users to change visible elements through the same controls they already use for conventional designs. Natural-language revisions remain available, but they are no longer the only way to improve the result.
HTML importing and code access create a bridge between Canva and more technical development workflows, while Brand Kits, comments and integrated publishing make interactive projects easier to manage across teams.
The larger significance is the convergence of design and software creation. Code remains responsible for how an experience functions, but Canva is making more of that experience controllable through visual decisions.
For creators, educators, marketers and entrepreneurs, that could make lightweight digital products easier to build and personalize. For professional teams, its value will depend on knowing where visual editing is sufficient—and where engineering expertise remains essential.
